Usually it uses the technique of progressively increasing the force output of the muscle through incremental weight increases and uses a variety of exercises and types of equipment to target specific muscle groups. Before your first session with Matt, he will assess your fitness level, body condition and discuss with you about your goals. Matt will design a progressive programme that's effective and enjoyable.


Whether you're preparing for your first 5k race or your first ultra marathon race, Matt will help you. Having completed various races himself, he will guide you through your physical obstacles and mental barriers, from his own experiences. When I first found Matt, I was under-confident, very low and 20+ stone. I had tried in the past, many times, to sort myself out but had always wound up back in exactly the same spot I started out from. I have been training with Matt for a few months now, I set myself the goal of dunking a basketball (random I know!) but before I had my consultation with Matt he had already done some research and was full of ideas. When I first started training I was very out of shape but now I feel much fitter and I’m well on my way to completing my goal. From the very first session Matt was full of encouragement, advice and support – he’s very knowledgeable! It’s not an act with Matt, he is genuinely a nice guy and manages to get the best out of you without being a “drill instructor”. He talks to you and tells you how and why the workouts will help you reach your goal; he helps you understand the process. With Matt as your PT you’re not only getting him for one/two hours a week, he’s always a text away and plans the sessions in his own time (he’s always mixing it up too - I’m yet to have two sessions that are the same) and always comes prepared and ready to go. I see Matt no longer as my PT but a friend.
